Sweat & (Outside of) the City

The ultimate car driver has RETURNED from the big city to a delightful land where she can tool around in Flanders, the 2004 Civic. That's right, I'm on Long Island.

The Most Unclosing Closing Ever

before we go into the bulk of the musings
we must say
HAPPY BELATED MOTHER'S DAY TO ONE SUSAN "MOMCAT" MUSAR!!!
i'm afraid i inherited my dad's genes when it comes to recognition of holidays/birthdays
just wait, i'll be buying christmas gifts on christmas eve this year

it's that time of year again
resident directors raise their eyes towards the heavens
and say "get the heck out of the building!"
as their students go home for the summer
this is my fifth building closing
and i would just like to say
this is the most untypical closing ever
normally i have lots of excitement about clearing out the building
hooray, bring on the summer!
but not here
on 5/28 we have 250 interns moving in
(that'll be fun)
and frankly, i must say i'm disappointed in many of the students
apparently i have to hit them over the head with a boulder
and yell the checkout procedures in their face
because they sure can't seem to figure it out
despite all the signs, memos, conversations from their RAs

but before i get too bummed out by the state of college kids
i go to something like the parsons communications design senior thesis display
oh my goodness, such amazing creations!!!
one of the RAs designed a set of furniture to help preschoolers learn the alphabet
it's called Alpha-Build, and it was awesome
and then there's my RA Riddhika who displayed her beautiful earrings
there were films, package designs, books, oh my!
great talent out there

BK and i went to see they might be giants on friday
terribly fun band
and on saturday i got the classic INXS album "Kick"
in the mail (but in CD form)
and it brought back these strong memories of the original towsontown center
and buying that album with one jenny gresock
good times..

and now, to the office
where i will invariably answer the same 3 questions
(what do i do with my trash? READ THE SIGNS!
can i stay past checkout? NO!!!
umm, what if something is broken in my apartment? Well, prepare for a wee charge my friend)

Hey...next Friday at 6 p.m. is the grand opening of the "Apple Store, Fifth Avenue" (as Apple calls it).

There are rumors the head honcho will be there...and that it will also mark the introduction of the new MacBook (replacing the iBook) and an adjustment to the iPod family...but, again, those are just rumors.
