Sweat & (Outside of) the City

The ultimate car driver has RETURNED from the big city to a delightful land where she can tool around in Flanders, the 2004 Civic. That's right, I'm on Long Island.

i am shamed...

but in this time of turmoil
with natural disasters and the disastarous reactions by our government
there's so much i could choose to write about
sure, i could say that the director of FEMA should immediately tender his resignation
and then perhaps i could talk about how it's vital that there is
an independent counsel review of the government's response

but no, here's my topic of choice
tommy lee goes to college
i'm going to be brief
but in flipping around, i found the first episode of this reality show
and anything based around a college setting
has me at hello
so they show tommy going to look for on-campus housing
he goes wandering thru BEAUTIFUL residence halls
and all i can think of is
"damn, that's a fine-looking corridor!
ooh, they put big whiteboards on all the doors!"
he finally chooses a roommate and a fairly sumptuous room
(at least by res hall standards)
well, tommy can't have standard issue DORM furniture and surroundings
so he tricks the place out
flat screen tv, guitars on the walls, vibrating leather barcaloungers, etc etc
and again, the RD in me is mentally screaming
"you CAN"T hang stuff in the walls!!"

i am shamed because that is finally what got me to post
after 10 days

and now i'm watching the 9-11esque telethon for the gulf coast
it is just horrifying how almost every person they show
from the devastation is african-american
as sean put it
if this tragedy struck orange county, CA
you know those voices would have been heard sooner
this is truly a shameful part of our american history
and when the time is right
the people in those high places who made those tragic decisions
must be held accountable
