Sweat & (Outside of) the City

The ultimate car driver has RETURNED from the big city to a delightful land where she can tool around in Flanders, the 2004 Civic. That's right, I'm on Long Island.

Living in the Past

right now i am watching the documentary about they might be giants "gigantic"
and i am reminded of what a great band they are
listening to those first three albums take me back to the awkward teen years in towson
(shout out to people who i haven't seen in a dozen years
cathy dover, matt saunders, gary stegman, et al)
i saw TMBG last year in seattle
and it was a damn fine show
and i just missed a show in philly
(not that i could have gotten there
shaking my fist at NYC)

and here's another element of the past that has been pulled into the now
KELLY RONAN!!!
yes, UW's finest will be spending the summer in NYC
as an RA for me
unfortunately, one of my summer RAs had to bail
(due to an amazing internship opportunity)
and i thought, hey! maybe i could get one of my seattle kids out here!
and lo and behold
the planets aligned
and KR will be here starting mid-June!

and now i must fetch my brussel sprouts
as they smell like they are burning

Saturday, Part 2

ok, first off
my links aren't showing up
even though i see them in preview mode
stupid blogger

today i have had a very new york day
i ate meat from a cart
and had a mouse scurry across my living room
stupid rodents

and now i'm off to see mike d

Saturday Morning Musings

why am i awake?
granted, it's 9 am
a perfectly normal time for waking up
so now i am spending time with
the super strength brats of
"my super sweet 16" on mtv
god help the future of our country
and by all means, give your spoiled 16-year-old hoochie daughter
a new new infiniti when she says screw you to her mom
over a disagreement in centerpieces
(and the little witch demands the $3000 that the mother saved
for switching the pieces out)
this is why i will stop being a hall director next year
because i cannot deal with kids like that

and guess what?
i'm going to alaska in less than 3 months!
yesterday, i purchased some supplies
including pants that zip into shorts
woo hoo!
and i've put the link for my habitat page
over there on the right ------------>
if you have some money burning a hole in your pocket

and last but not least
tonight is mike doughty!
back to the roots of small rock
as this show appears to be in a mexican restaurant
ole!

Spring Has Sprung

happy easter folks
in honor of the day
i am wearing a t-shirt the color
of a paas dyed easter egg

i have made some DELICIOUS roasted asparagus
for easter dinner at neil's
there is lemon, garlic, olive oil, and pancetta
and unfortunately, i keep eating it
here's hoping i have some to take to brooklyn
right now all the powers/matthews clan
is feasting in delaware
i'm disappointed that i can't be there
but i couldn't handle the bus ride down there

and here's how you really know it's spring
i swapped out winter clothes for summer ones
it involved a lot of folding
drawer switching and thoughts of
"oh damn i hope i fit in these clothes"
i'm sure some of you can relate
and those of you that can't
bully to you!

College, as Seen on TV

so as i'm sitting on my sofa
waiting for my 4 loads of wash
to go thru the spin cycle
i discovered that on old classic
"felicity" was on tv

first, a little background for those playing at home
i live in a university apartment building in nyc
like our fair protagonist felecity
but that's where the similarity end
the residents of 912
where the felicity and her fellow sophomores live
are hosting a dinner party
ok, rent for this college dorm apartment
would be at least $3000 a year
of the 4 people living there
everyone has their own bedroom
then there's the kitchen and the living room
and lest we not forget the grand entrance hallway
at one point when someone
needs to have "serious" conversation
felicity says
"i'll leave you two alone, this apartment has plenty of room"
NO ONE HAS EVER SAID THAT IN A COLLEGE APARTMENT IN NEW YORK!!!!
LIES LIES LIES
and here's the funny thing
it's actually true in her case

oy, i don't want to do laundry

and by the way
it's a lovely day in the city

But More Importantly, I am a Bad Friend

as BK always reminds me
i continually fail to include
the many many times that he has
supported me as a friend and a financial resource
like a de facto sugar daddy
it's like i have a swiss cheese brain
and the BK part is in one of the holes

so last friday was Roadtrip 2.0
"Cleveland's a Bust b/c Katie's Sick"
instead we went to bucknell university
where we witnessed amazing thunderstorms
and an equally awesome ben folds show
i love love love ben
and i hate hate hate a motel room that smells like grandparents
but hey, when you don't have to pay for it
you really shouldn't complain, right?

today is my dad's birthday
if you see mike musar
tell him happy birthday!

I am a Bad Blogger

i have really deliquent in my posting
and it's not like i don't have things to say
like
1) i broke up with my therapist (yay!)
2) i was going to film that webcast short about technology
and maybe get some cool free stuff, but i bailed (boo! i'm chicken
and i realized I just wanted to be wanted--just like Cheap Trick says)
3) it is beautiful in new york
4) i haggled for an ice cream cone
5) i really like taylor hicks from american idol
i'm such a sucker for silver hair
(i'm looking at you anderson cooper)
6) i am not going to delaware for easter
which is a big bummer, but i don't really want to spend the weekend on the bus
instead, i shall be supping in brooklyn with neil and angelo
7) i am still doing well with not biting my nails
8) i need a damn pedicure
9) it is much harder to stick to my budget when it is nice outside
it's easy not to spend money if you don't leave the house
10) umm, not sure about 10
let me know what you think 10 should be in the comments
you know the comments, right?

Cult of Personality

this weekend was the big game show audition
and lord knows i can't talk about the process
as i signed
dum dum dum
A CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT!!!
anyway, lizzie, bk and i took a really difficult test
but lo and behold
we passed!!
so that meant we went to the interview round
where we tried to make jokes
and be personable to the sex and the city clones
who were wielding the clipboards
we were told "we'll call you by 9 pm"
at 8 pm i got the call that sealed our fate
the call that began "unfortunately..."
and that's where the story ends
oh well, it was good while it lasted
(approximately 45 minutes)

but the weekend was not a lost cause
because lizzie musar was in town!
any time spent with lizzie is good time!

and now i'm off to eat the banana pudding lizzie bought me
